Exploiting sparsity in adaptive filters
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper studies a class of algorithms called Natural Gradient (NG) algorithms, and their approximations, known as ANG algorithms. The LMS algorithm is derived within the NG framework, and a family of LMS variants that exploit sparsity is derived. Mean squared error (MSE) analysis of the family of ANG algorithms is provided, and it is shown that if the system is sparse, then the new algorithms will often converge faster for a given total asymptotic MSE. Simulations are provided to confirm the analysis. In addition, Bayesian priors matching the statistics of a database of real channels are given. Actual channels are identified by algorithms that exploit these priors and by LMS, showing a realistic application of these algorithms.

Efficient multichannel acoustic echo cancellation using constrained tap selection schemes in the subband domain
Acoustic echo cancellation (AEC) is a key speech enhancement technology in speech communication and voice-enabled devices. AEC systems employ adaptive filters to estimate the acoustic echo paths between the loudspeakers and the microphone(s). In applications involving surround sound, the computational complexity of an AEC system may become demanding due to the multiple loudspeaker channels and ...
متن کاملAdaptive Convex Combination of APA and ZA-APA algorithms for Sparse System Identification
In general, one often encounters the systems that have sparse impulse response, with time varying system sparsity. Conventional adaptive filters which perform well for identification of non-sparse systems fail to exploit the system sparsity for improving the performance as the sparsity level increases. This paper presents a new approach that uses an adaptive convex combination of Affine Project...
متن کاملUsing the Adaptive Frequency Nonlinear Oscillator for Earning an Energy Efficient Motion Pattern in a Leg- Like Stretchable Pendulum by Exploiting the Resonant Mode
In this paper we investigate a biological framework to generate and adapt a motion pattern so that can be energy efficient. In fact, the motion pattern in legged animals and human emerges among interaction between a central pattern generator neural network called CPG and the musculoskeletal system. Here, we model this neuro - musculoskeletal system by means of a leg - like mechanical system cal...
متن کاملMinimum Error Entropy Algorithms with Sparsity Penalty Constraints
Recently, sparse adaptive learning algorithms have been developed to exploit system sparsity as well as to mitigate various noise disturbances in many applications. In particular, in sparse channel estimation, the parameter vector with sparsity characteristic can be well estimated from noisy measurements through a sparse adaptive filter. In previous studies, most works use the mean square error...
متن کاملDesing And Implementation of Adaptive Active Filters for Exact Estimation And Elimination of AC Network Distortions
In recent years, active filters have been considered and developed for elimation of harmonics in power networks. Comparing with passive, they are smaller and have better compensating characteristics and resistance to line distortions. In this paper, a novel idea based on adaptive filter theory in presented to develop an active filter to eliminate the distortions of an arbitrary signal. Using th...
